Supporting Charities:

American Cancer Society

American Cancer Society

The American Cancer Society is the nationwide community-based voluntary health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives and diminishing suffering from cancer, through research, education, advocacy and service.

Team ACS is a unique fund raising program in which people who are participating in various events — from marathons and triathlons to dance-a-thons and bake sales — can raise money online to benefit the American Cancer Society's fight against cancer. Through Team ACS, participating team members can turn their hobbies and passions into lifesaving endeavors. This program also provides an excellent way to commemorate a friend or loved one lost to cancer by raising money in their honor. In addition to raising funds and recruiting team members online, Team ACS empowers team members to help increase awareness about cancer and the importance of prevention and early detection.

Please visit our Team ACS Web site at www.cancer.org/TeamACS to explore its capabilities and spread the word to your members! Joining Team ACS will enhance your Capital City Half Marathon experience by giving you the opportunity to fight a disease that strikes one in four Americans!

The Capital Kids

Capital Kids

The Mayor's Office of Education is hard at work to fulfill Mayor Michael Coleman's promise to prepare Columbus for the next generation. A historic step forward was taken with the creation of Capital Kids, a new model for after school programs with pilots based at four recreation centers: Fedderson, Sawyer, Marion Franklin, and Sullivant Gardens. This model not only incorporates trained staff, state of the art technology, high expectations and high performance standards to gauge students' academic achievement, but also provides more kids a safe place to learn and play when school lets out.

We are pleased to announce that a portion of the proceeds from the Capital City Half Marathon shall be donated to this great program.

Gracehaven

Gracehaven

Gracehaven is a faith-based non-profit organization started in 2008 for the expressed purpose of providing shelter, security, and rehabilitation to girls under the age of 18 who are victims of commercial sexual exploitation in central Ohio.

Gracehaven is a long-term rehabilitation facility allowing girls to stay as needed until they reach the age of 18. We will then help them transition to the next step in their life. While at Gracehaven, the girls will be able to earn their GED, as well as receive counseling and treatment for the horrible trauma and exploitation they have been forced to endure.

Gracehaven is in the process of purchasing a house situated on 10 acres in an undisclosed location in NW Ohio. Once renovated, the house will be large enough to hold up to 10 girls at a time.

Mission Statement:

Gracehaven seeks through Christian love to provide shelter and rehabilitation to girls under the age of 18 who have been victims of commercial sexual exploitation, and to raise awareness among young women about the issue of domestic minor sex trafficking (DMST) in order to educate and equip them so that they can avoid becoming victims themselves.

Running for Israel

Running for Israel

There is a road to peace. And we're running it.

Running for Israel is an organization with a simple mission: run races, have fun, and make a difference. While the challenges facing Israel are quite serious, the way we can help doesn't have to be. So what Running for Israel (RFI) does is organize individuals of all ages and abilities to enter runs and walks in their own areas. The sponsorship money that people raise (which usually comes from friends and family), goes directly to organizations both in Israel, and in the US.

We want you to join our Columbus team.

It's simple. The more people who run with us at the Capital City Half Marathon, the more we help Israel. The money raised is distributed to four different charities that were selected because of the varying forms of assistance they provide.

One Family helps terror victims and their families. Honest Reporting is a media watch dog that ensures fair coverage of events in the Middle East. Keren Y and Y provides food in the form of credits at local markets to poor families hit hardest by the economic downturn and lack of tourism caused by terrorism. The last, Hasbara Fellowships, partners with the Israeli Foreign Ministry to teach students how to effectively speak out against anti-Semitic and anti-Israel bias on campus. Run with us and help us help them!

The charity has been featured in AM New York, on Israel National Radio, in The Jewish Week, and The Jerusalem Post. You can learn more about the "Running Rabbi", and how to run with and contribute to Running For Israel on our Web site www.runningforisrael.com. So please visit us and join us here at the Capital City Half Marathon.

Fertility Dream

Dreams can come true. For many, a wish is all it takes to start a family. For millions of others, fulfilling the dream to have a child can be long, slow, and arduous. It is a journey undertaken one step at a time...

To help those with fertility challenges overcome feelings of frustration and/or isolation, The AFA launched the Fertility Dream — a fun, healthy activity where individuals or groups can join The AFA's team of runners and walkers, show their support for fertility issues, and get fit.

In 2005, The AFA will bring the Fertility Dream to runners and walkers in four different cities across the country — Tucson, Chicago, Boston, and Danbury, Connecticut.

The AFA provides training plans and email support to enable Fertility Dream participants to complete a 5-kilometer walk/run. For more details or to register, please visit our website www.theafa.org or call 888-917-4777.
